Sanctuary Rabbits
-- What Are They? Hello, I'm Winston. I am a Sanctuary Rabbit. Why? Well, my full name is Wobbly Winston. That kind of explains part of it. I wobble. I'm a large white New Zealand male (neutered, of course.) This is my story: I was brought to Oregon Humane Society, where a volunteer adopted me to a man. The man brought me home, gave me a room, and called me Winston. Well, I hopped kinda funny and the man thought I was sick. I went to the vet, and apparently there was no way to cure me. The man was unhappy, and the Oregon Humane Society volunteer told him to call the Oregon House Rabbit Society. They talked to the vet, and they explained to the man who adopted me that while I wasn't perfect, I was in no pain and my personality is what mattered. But he called the Oregon House Rabbit Society people back, and I was brought to "the Sanctuary". Well, that was a few years ago. Lots of veterinary tests were done on me, and it turns out that I will always wobble. Now, I wobble more -- actually, after each hop. My wife (she's a beautiful brown-and-white minilop) doesn't mind. She usually stays close to me. We are side by side, except when she steps on me when she thinks we're about to get special treats. (The woman is crazy for banana.) By the way, Fussel lives with us also. He is an eleven-year-old white, pink-eyed angora. He doesn't act his age, though. Apparently, he has outlived three wives! Now, he lives with us. (Actually, I don't mind. Try snuggling with a large wife and an angora. When we do, you can't tell that I wobble.) NOTE: If you would like to sponsor a Sanctuary Rabbit like Wobbly Winston as to veterinary care, housing costs, etc., please contact the Oregon House Rabbit Society.
